Read this quote posted on another blog today:
“Between the Christianity of this land and the Christianity of Christ, I recognize the widest possible difference - so wide, that to receive the one as good, pure, and holy is of necessity to reject the other as bad, corrupt, and wicked…I love the pure, peaceable, and impartial Christianity of Christ; I therefore hate the corrupt, slaveholding, women-whipping, cradle-plundering, partial, and hypocritical Christianity of this land. Indeed, I can see no reason, but the most deceitful one, for calling the religion of this land Christianity.”
- Frederick Douglass, 1845
Are there ways in which the same thing could be said today? Are there ways that Christianity has become "Americanized" and diluted from the Christianity of Christ?
What do you think?

There are times when we are so far away from the Christianity of Christ that we should be ashamed of ourselves. Ah, the American way....we rely on ourselves, our talents, our resources, our works. WE CAN DO IT - WE'RE NUMBER ONE. Sadly we forget that it is only through the blood of Jesus that we are justified. NOTHING that we can do or have done will get us to God! We so want to DO something, to BE something, to WORK our way to heaven.
Sola gratia, grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone! That's it and that simple statement goes against our every fiber of our being. Instead of arrogant, proud, know-it -all Christians we should be humble, loving, compassionate people looking to Jesus for our strength and our template. That's what will change our world, our Church and ourselves.
